Performing Arts

The school choir gave a polished performance at the Voices for Hospice concert at the Gracie Field Theatre last month, they were applauded enthusiastically and praised by the organisers.

The Youth Band, conducted by Lee Rigg, participated in the National Festival of Music for Youth at the Birmingham Symphony Hall in July.  They played in the Festival with another six School/Youth Bands and gained an Allianze Special Award for an Outstanding Performance!  The band are now waiting to see if they are selected to play at the Schools Proms in November at the Royal Albert Hall, fingers crossed!

Three of out partner Primary Schools, who receive their music tuition from Wardle High School, also took part in the Festival and Smithy Bridge gained the TES Special Award and are also awaiting news about selection.  St James, conducted by Gwen Diggle and Littleborough Community School conducted by Lee Rigg also participated in the Festival and got excellent adjudications.

Hopwood Hall Festival of Sport

The PE department took over 120 students from Year 7-10 to Hopwood Hall to compete in the Festival of Sport.  Teams that took part were Mixed Rounders (Year 7), Cheerleading (Year 9 girls), Tennis (Year 9 & 10 boys), Basketball (Year 8 girls), Football (Year 8 boys & girls teams), Hockey (Year 7 & 8 mixed), Tag Rugby (Year 8 girls), Trampolining (all Years) and Badminton ( Year 9 & 10 mixed).  It was a fantastic day and Wardle were successful with the tennis team coming 2nd and the Cheelearding team being highly commended for their adventurous routine.  Well done all!

Rochdale Schools Athletics Competition

Students from Year 7 to 10 took part in the Rochdale Schools Athletics Competition at Springhill.  Wardle had several medal winners which included; Year 7 Nathan Flaherty (Gold), Katy Logan (Bronze), Max Johnston, Year 9 Sophie Thirsk (Gold), Susannah Moore (Gold), Keenan Rhodes, Year 10 Ben Emmerson, Sally Goodall and Genna Kirtley plus many more!  Well done to all that took part, you did us proud.

Rounders

This year has been a successful year for the Rounders team.  The Year 7 girls have gone from strength to strength and we now have a strong team who are committed and regularly attend practice.  The Year 9 team were unlucky in both the League and the Tournament, narrowly missing out on a place in the Semi Final.  The Year 10 Team has seen the most success both in the League and Tournament and on more than one occasion they have come from behind to win and ended up coming second in the League.  On the 14th July they competed in a Tournament held at Hollingworth High and were successful enough to reach the Semi Final where they lost out to Hollingworth.  Well done girls!

Jessica Lynch

Wardle High School would like to congratulate Jess on her success of winning Rochdale Volunteer of the Year.  This is a massive achievement as she was up against many other people who run clubs etc in the community.  She will now be put forward for the Greater Manchester Awards in November.  Jess was a Platinum Sports Ambassador for Wardle, one of only two in the borough.  Well done Jess!
